MARCH 15- 2013- EQUANOCTICAL flares, full halo CME and SOLAR PROTON STORM:

SIGNIFICANT SOLAR EVENTS- MARCH- 2013

20130316- 20

MAR 16- 21: As STEREO images show, and as its is typical in association with these ldom solar quake, that occured on March 15- those produce protons storms- a strong increase in eruptive activity followed . MainlyAR 11692 (along with 11695) continued to produce flares and CMEs until it dissapeared behind the Western limbon March 21. The strongest event was a M 1 eruption late on March 21. STEREO and SoHO had transmission problems by the intensive x ray burst thus that latest event cannot by analysed for Earth directed parts before images will resume (read more below in "terrestrial).

20130315

MAR- 15- 2013- shortly after 06 UTC : AR 11692 produced an M1 LDE flare with a strong and FULLY HALO Earth directed CME while passing over the central meridian.

SOLAR PROTON STORM! An increase of introgeomagnnetic proton flux followed after 18: 00 UTC.This CME must be expected to arrive sometimes on March 17.

MAR- 12- 2013 MAR- 12- 2013- AR 11691 produced anC 1 LDE flare after 10 UTC and AR 11692 an impulsive C 3 class flare after 23 UTC on March 12- 2013. AR 11691 is close to the central meridian . CME parts from both events might arrive on Earth sometimes on March 15. for more infos, see daily blogs/ click on the tab "Solar" to read more...
MAR- 07- 2013 ON MAR 07 AFTER 24 UTC- A SLIGHT BUT GEOEFFECTIVE INCREASE OF PROTONS WAS MEASURED AFTER SURFACE ACTIVITIES BY GOES WITHIN THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD. PROTONS FLUX WAS HIGHER STILL ON MAR 10 see daily blogs/ click on the tab "Solar" to read more...

FEB- 27- 2013

FEB- 27- 2012: Stronger solar eruption regularly cause temporary transmission blackouts at all solar observer satellites. Thus some events remain undetected until images resume. Review on Feb 27 however unveiled, that several dramatic , eruptions occured between February 25 and 27- fortunately all backside events. Some triggered obviously also frontside emissions

FEB- 24-27- 201

FEB- 24-27- 2013: VARIOUS STRONG BACKSIDE ERUPTIONS AND WIDE CMES OCCURED IN AN UNNUMBERED REGION THAT WILL ROTATE INTO SIGHT IN THE NEXT DAYS. WAVES RUNNING FROM THE BACKSIDE ALL OVER THE SUN SURFACE ON STEREO H1 MAGNETOGRAPHIC IMAGES AND AN MINOR OVERALL PROTON EMISSION( INTO ALL DIRECTIONS) INDICATE, THESE EVENTS WERE ASSOCIATED TO STH. such AS A SOLAR " GRAVITY QUAKE" . ON FEB- 27 AFTER 01 UTC- A SLIGHT BUT GEOEFFECTIVE INCREASE (10x) OF PROTONS WAS MEASURED BY GOES ALSO WITHIN THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD.

  SIGNIFICANT TERRESTRIAL EVENTS- MARCH- 2013
MARCH 18- 2013

NEW VOLCANIC TREMORS BEGAN SOON AFTER THIS CME IMPACT in the Canary island region with a first M 3.8 quake again on the suggested hot spot NORTH of Tenerife. An INTENSIVE EARTHQUAKE SWARM FOLLOWED ON MARCH 18. Differently to the previous eruption in 2011 , the epicenter this time shifted towards the WESTERN PEAK of Valle del Golfo). update- March 31: Earthquake frequency has decreased but magnitudes rise currently from day to day: The strongest quake since begin of the activity measured on March 31 reached M 4.9 . More rockfalls were reported from El Hierro. Ground reportedly was also shaken in La Palma The western part of Hierro was lifted upwards for 120 mm since the activity began on March 17 (read more in blogs below)

MAR 18- 22: ...continued from "SOLAR" above....All of these CME had at least Earth directed parts in form of intensified solar winds, those had it easy during the proton storm to impact into the temporary positive charged geomagnetic field. As usual the proton storm was followed by an electron storm that contiunues at time of this update. Much potential energy therefor accumulated within the Earth`s interior that will create high volcanic activities, strong thunderstorms over the next week. Its not often that I would estimated the possibility for a huge and DISASTROUS Earthquake with a magnitude HIGHER THAN M 8.0 ( what includes the chance for a TSUNAMI, if that quake occures offshore) as now, due to happen as soon the tectonic plates heated up now will have the chance to cool down and contract again if no further CMEs imact this would be about at the end of MARCH 2013.
MAR- 17- 2013

MARCH 17- 2013. CME Nr 17/ 13 March 15 in AR 11692 began to impact early on March 17 at 04 UTC ongoing).Check again later for updates

MAR- 15- 2013 AN INCREASE OF HIGH ACCELERATED PROTONS (SOLAR PROTON STORM) WAS MEASURED WITH THE GEOMAG. FIELD SINCE MARCH 15- 2013/ 18 UTC- 11 hours after the M1 flare on MAR 15.(This Proton Storm ended on March 18 at 18 UTC)
MAR 12- 2013 MARCH 14- 2013 The CMEs observed on March 12 began to arrive late on March 14. As ACE data show, the second, stronger event in AR 11692 went mainly of towards the EAST, but ejected slow (= low energetic) protons. Minor parts of its ejecta might therefor full impact by its positive polarity on March 15- 2013 and might have low- medium effects. More after arrival will be completed.
MAR 09- 2013 A CME arrived on March 09 likely from another proton flare in AR 11667 on MARCH 07 after 04 UTC
MARCH 01- 2013 A CME arrived early on March 01 likely a flank from the proton flares in AR 11671 on Feb 26- 27

FEB- 27- 2013

FEB- 27- 2013/ after 01 UTC- GOES 13 MEASURED A SLIGHT INCREASE OF PROTON FLUX INTO THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD. LIKELY INDICATING ANOTHER BEGINNING SOLAR PROTON STORM

The quake occured in estimated 10 km depth offshore the western coast of El Hierro. ( 10 km is a standard value and means mostly, that the depth either wasn`t or can`t be measured . The actual depth therefore might be different) . More rockfalls were reported from El Hierro. Ground reportedly was also shaken in La Palma The western part of Hierro was lifted upwards for 120 mm since the activity began on March 17 (read more in blogs below)

Iceland sees unusual seismic activity at Hekla volcano

Reykjavik: Iceland on Tuesday reported unusual seismic activity at Mount Hekla, one of its most active volcanos, and raised its alert level but said no eruption was imminent. The Icelandic Met Office said it had raised its aviation warning level a notch Tuesday for the first time in two years following “elevated unrest above a known background level during the last weeks.” The office told AFP there was no smoke rising from the mountain, but dark clouds seen from the ground could lead people to think there had been an eruption. The alert level for the aviation industry was raised from “green” to “yellow”, which it described as a precautionary measure due to the volcano’s “increased earthquake activity.” Emergency services said in a separate statement that they had declared “an uncertainty phase”, the lowest level of warning issued for events “that may threaten public health and safety, or that an environment or inhabited area may be threatened.” The eruption of Iceland’s Eyjafjoell volcano in April 2010 stranded more than eight million travellers as volcanic ash spread across Europe....read more...

El Hierro volcano (Canary Islands) - update: strong earthquakes continue

The situation has not changed much. Pulsating tremor and strong earthquakes up to magnitudes 4.3 continued throughout the night and have intensified this morning. A further small migration towards the south can be noted. Most quakes remain in the layer at 18-20 km depth. Deformation (uplift and eastwards displacement) continue as well, although at somewhat reduced rate, and have have reached 12 cm in the parts of western El Hierro. *by earthquake report.com( El Hierro Volcano activity report – Strongest earthquake so far felt all over the island (M4.7 preliminary)

2013-03-29 21:52 UTC - The strong seismicity continues but epicenters are migrating again more to the West. this also means that the seabed in the epicentral area goes down to approx. 3000 meter !

2013-03-29 20:05 UTC - Mid-Strong earthquakes started at 19:10 are continuing at the time of writing, as again, being felt by the population of El Hierro. We will keep you, as always, updated. - Earthquake depths are descending, as magma keeps pushing from below.

2013-03-29 18:51 UTC - If you cannot reach IGN, you are not the only one ! We neither. Probably a bandwidth problem (Back live again) - a relatively calm period at this moment - 133 earthquakes listed by IGN today - The M4.7 was felt as a MMI III intensity (weak shaking) at the island. The hypocenter was measured at 20 km - Below a video which was captured by Micky Peraza @ El Hierro (Fuga de Gorreta) during the M4.7 shaking

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 4: Hills and plains of north-west India are getting battered by an ‘intense western disturbance’ coming in from across the border. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall/snowfall, at times extremely heavy, over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. 2-DAY WARNING The warning is valid for at least next two days, the IMD said in its evening bulletin on Monday. A similar warning is also in place for Uttarakhand. Besides, hailstorm may rough up Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Adjoining north Haryana and Himachal Pradesh too may get clobbered by hailstorm during next two days. Squally winds would rip through Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, north Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. All this happens as the intense low-pressure wave makes a forced entry from overnight perch over north Pakistan/Afghanistan. DESERT ‘LOW’...read more...

Tibet mine landslide: Hopes fade for survivors

Hopes are fading for more than 80 miners buried in a landslide on Friday in Tibet. Chinese media said the first body had been found - but only 36 hours after the landslip - and that the chances of finding survivors were slim. The miners' camp, 70km (45 miles) east of Lhasa, was destroyed by thousands of tonnes of rock. Rescuers have been hampered by freezing weather, altitude sickness and risks of further landslides. Xinhua news agency said that as of 10:00 local time (02:00 GMT) no survivors had been found and later reported that the first body had been discovered at 17:35 local time. "The miners' survival chances were slim due to the scale of the landslide," it quoted one rescue worker as saying. The landslide took place at 06:00 local time on Friday at the mine, which lies at an altitude of 4,600m (15,000ft), burying 83 workers....read more...

APRIL- 02- 2013

report by:

GVP

MVO reported that during 22-29 March activity at the Soufrière Hills lava dome was at a low level. A pyroclastic flowtraveled down the Tar River Valley (E) at about 0500 on 28 March. The flow was not observed directly, but the deposits indicated that it traveled halfway down the valley, 1-1.5 km from the dome. There were no reports of ashfall; any ash was probably blown over Plymouth and out to sea. The source of the flow was not known due to cloud cover, but was likely from the failure a large slab that had been slowing moving away from the dome. Heavy rainfall during the evening of 28 March generated large lahars in several valleys around the volcano, including in the Belham Valley (NW). These started at about 1900 and lasted for several hours. The Hazard Level remained at 2 (on a scale of 1-5).

Hailstones pummel Vietnam northern provinces

News Desk Viet Nam News Publication Date : 28-03-2013 A hailstorm hit Vietnam's northern mountainous provinces of Cao Bang, Ha Giang and Lao Cai yesterday, injuring dozens of people while damaging tens of thousands of houses. Lao Cai was hardest hit with 33 people being injured and 5,700 houses damaged. More than 10,500 households in total and many schools and health clinics were affected. Fifteen of the injured were taken to hospital after being hit by massive hailstones that rained down for 15 minutes.

The hailstorm hit Lao Cai at dawn yesterday, where hailstones had an average diameter of 5-10cm. Vu Thanh Tuan, a resident in Muong Khuong district, told Vietnam News Agency it was the heaviest hail fall he had ever seen. "There were hailstones the size of a person's fist," he said. Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ma Quang Trung said the storm was unusual....read more...

Brazil port accident blamed on Amazon wave

A mining company in Brazil has said a giant wave was to blame for the collapse and sinking of a floating port on the Amazon river, in Amapa state. Rescue operations are under way to locate six workers who went missing. The unusually big wave allegedly washed over the banks of the Amazon, dragging with it cranes, lorries and people, a company spokesman said. But witnesses said the surge was caused by the collapse of the floating quay, and not the other way around. The authorities are investigating the accident in the port town of Santana, on the facilities of Anglo Ferrous, the Brazilian subsidiary mining giant Anglo American. Divers and rescue workers are scanning the muddy waters of the Amazon river in search of survivors. The accident happened around midnight local time (0300GMT), witnesses say...read more...

Scientists Image Deep Magma Beneath Pacific Seafloor Volcano

Mar. 27, 2013 — Since the plate tectonics revolution of the 1960s, scientists have known that new seafloor is created throughout the major ocean basins at linear chains of volcanoes known as mid-ocean ridges. But where exactly does the erupted magma come from?

Researchers at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego now have a better idea after capturing a unique image of a site deep in the Earth where magma is generated. Using electromagnetic technology developed and advanced at Scripps, the researchers mapped a large area beneath the seafloor off Central America at the northern East Pacific Rise, a seafloor volcano located on a section of the global mid-ocean ridges that together form the largest and most active chain of volcanoes in the solar system. By comparison, the researchers say the cross-section area of the melting region they mapped would rival the size of San Diego County....read more....

The Icelandic Meteorological Office noted that since 10 March, at least seven micro-earthquakes at Hekla, ranging in size from M 0.4 to 1, had been detected within a small area about 4.5 km NE of the summit, at depths of 11-12 km. These earthquakes were high-frequency, suggestive of brittle fracturing rather than magma movement. At Hekla, such a clustering of earthquakes is unusual in between eruptions. Continuous measurements of borehole strain and ground-based GPS showed no changes in crustal deformation. On 26 March the Icelandic Meteorological Office increased the Aviation Colour Code from Green to Yellow, because of the increased seismic activity. Icelandic Civil Defense together with the Police in Hvolsvöllur had also declared a level of uncertainty for Hekla, although there were no observable signs that an eruption of Hekla was imminent.

Cold weather disruption continues

Severe weather continues to cause disruption across parts of the UK, as forecasters warn the cold temperatures will last until mid-April. Thousands of people in western Scotland are without power for a sixth day and further snow has caused difficult road conditions. In Northern Ireland, the RAF is delivering emergency food supplies to remote farms for a second day. Isle of Man farmers are searching for livestock buried in the snow. And thousands of animals are thought trapped in snow drifts in Northern Ireland. Current daytime temperatures across the UK are wallowing at around 2-3C.

<< METEOSAT EUROMETEO). On March 27th, the snow bringing clouds above Eutrope obviously began to dissolve and weather might be better soon (?)

ERUPTION ON ICELANDS HEKLA VOLCANO?

20130327

report by:

www.icenews.is

ICELAND/ HEKLA VOLCANO

The Police in Hvolsvöllur and the Civil Defense department have expressed concern over increased seismic activity around Hekla volcano in the past few days. Seven tremors have been measured in the last two weeks, a frequency which has never been matched since Hekla’s previous eruption.

According to geologists at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, the seven earthquakes were measured some 5 km from the top of the volcano and at a depth of 11 to 12 km. However, no magma movement has been measured.  The volcano is being closely monitored at the moment by geologists who decided to alert authorities as Hekla eruption usually happen with very little warning, and the mountain itself is a popular hike among locals and tourists alike. The warning issued is the lowest out of three and is raised in order to initiate an appropriate and rapid emergency response in the case of an eruption. Internet users can monitor the activity around the volcano themselves with a live webcam of Hekla. Quite reassuringly, what looks like smoke at the top of the volcano is in fact just a cloud (at least for the moment)...read more...

( MARCH 27) Taiwan rocked by 6.1 magnitude earthquake

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale has struck Taiwan. There are reports of a 72-year-old woman being killed by a collapsed temple wall. At least 19 people were injured. The island experiences several minor earthquakes so evacuation procedures are well-practiced. Buildings are also constructed to withstand the tremors so damage was limited. The epicentre of the tremor is the predominantly rural Nantou, the country’s second largest province. The province is 250 kilometres south of the capital Taipei. Nantou is near the epicenter of a magnitude 7.6 earthquake that killed more than 2,300 people in 1999....read more...

VARIOUS REPORTS:_

INCREASING SEISMIC ACTIVITY ON EL HIERRO / CANARY ISLAND

20130325

report by earthquake- report. com

2013-03-24 22:00 UTC- 148 earthquakes until the time of writing this update - no change in important data (same depth and same epicenter area). - The Oceanographic vessel Ramon Margalef has scanned the La Restinga vent area. They found 3 spots which were degassing (see image below who shows 1 degassing spot – plume at the left side). This gas emission has probably nothing to do with the current crisis as the same degassing was also reported many months after the end of the eruption. It was captured on video by the ROVs of a number of expeditions. The ship has not cruised the current earthquake area as this mission was planned a long time before the current crisis. There will be a total of 3 such missions. If the current crisis continues, we suppose that the plans may be altered. - INVOLCAN is sending in a team to El Hierro tomorrow. they will reinforce measuring systems and will also be measuring CO2 3 earthquakes M3+, an M3.1, an M3.5 and a M3.6, were all felt by (some) people at El Hierro, which is normal at these magnitudes. No fundamental change in depth and hypocenter location. The current activity can lead to even stronger earthquakes. - We want to reiterate to our readers from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean NOT TO BELIEVE so called imminent Tsunami danger alerts spread in articles and videos. There is NO reason whatsoever to believe that there is a high risk for a dramatic event. ..read more...

( internal update by alien-homepage) : seismic activity further increased below El Hierro Island also on March 25 . 6 Earthquakes above M 3.0 were registered at time of this update on March 25 / 8: 15 UTC. The highest measured M 3.9 . The tremor depth slowy wanders further upwards from 18 km on March 24 to 16 km early on March 26 . As usually, shield volcanoes as the island El Hierro form new craters on varying rather weaker spots of their hard lava shield , preferently at its edges. ( lefet image above) . There is no webcam there. but activity shifted from the South of Restina ( where the 1. eruption took place in 2011and where volcano " Bob" began to form a new island until the activity then STOPPED later in 20122 and shortly before "Bob" was reaching the surface) to the western edge. This time mainy activities are all nearby Valle Del Golfo- likely the remaint of the old main crater - that collapsed any time in history. Later this most western part of the island slipped into the ocean and left the valle del Golfo. The current depths of the quakes mark- so earthquake- report. com - the current height the magma . An eruption therefore would be expectable if the magma rises further and would reach ground level. With the current velocity this would be appr. on April 1 or 2) Today`s activity however marks a new peak and values are the highest SINCE entire activity / inflation began in in 2011!

The activity on El Hierro has been constantly reported here on alien-homepage since it began 2011and will further be monitored as informations come in! Find more reports, images and real time maps in the past days blogs below and in my archives.

Mexico uncovers ancient pelota courts at Tajin site

Archaeologists in Mexico say they have uncovered three ancient playing fields at a pre-Hispanic site in the eastern state of Veracruz. They found the courts, dating back some 1,000 years, at the Tajin World Heritage site by using laser scanners. They believe the fields would have been used to play pelota, a game in which players used their hips to propel a rubber ball through stone hoops. The sport was widely played by Mayan and other pre-Columbian people. Experts from the National Institute for Anthropology and History (INAH) said the use of aerial photography, remote sensors and laser scanners had made it possible to find the ancient structures, hidden by layers of soil and dense vegetation.

Clue to the past Guadalupe Zetina of the Tajin archaeological site said they would now proceed to excavate parts of the site to further investigate the find. As well as the three playing fields, the archaeologists found remains of "balconies", platforms between 10m (33ft) and 12m high that would have provided a panoramic view of the surrounding area. Ms Zetina said so far they had found two balconies but that they suspected there may be more. "At the moment, we're studying their characteristics and making 3-D digital models, but we'll need to carry out excavations to determine how they were used, but we're sure they were viewing platforms," Ms Zetina said....read more...

March 22, 2013 volcano activity

Well, there are volcanoes who attract attention by unusual behavior,…and then there are volcanoes which demand attention by their unusual behavior!  Telica volcano (Nicaragua) (station TELN) and El Hierro (Canary Islands) (station CHIE) are both demanding our attention at this time!

At Telica volcano, hundreds of earthquakes, with magnitudes as high as M2.1, have shook the volcano for the past week.  Thus far, Nicaraguan authorities have not described other indicators of magmatic activity (deformation, increased fumarolic activity) beneath the volcano.

At El Hierro, similar activity but with event magnitudes as high as M3.8 (yesterday) cluster around 15 km depth beneath the island.  Deformation (uplift) as measured by GPS instrumentation ranges from 10 to 35 mm since renewed unrest began some three days ago.  The activity currently is centered just off the western shoreline of El Hierro. Follow our in-depth reporting here.

ANOTHER METEOR SIGHTED OVER CALIFORNIA

20130323

report by:

news.yahoo.com

Boulder-Size Asteroid Caused Friday's East Coast Meteor, NASA Says

The dramatic fireball that lit up skies over the U.S. East Coast Friday evening (March 22) was caused by an asteroid just 3 feet (0.9 meters) or so wide, scientists say. Such boulder-size asteroids slam into Earth's atmosphere every two or three days, so Friday's "Manhattan meteor" — which shone as brightly as the full moon and was apparently visible from Maine to North Carolina — isn't a terribly rare event. But the sensation it created on Twitter and other social media outlets is understandable nonetheless, said NASA meteor expert Bill Cooke. "When you have something like this occur at 8 o'clock at night over one of the most populated regions of the United States, it's going to get people's attention," Cooke, head of the Meteoroid Environment Office at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., told reporters today (March 23). Indeed, a similar meteor caused a stir last month when it blazed through the skies above California's densely populated Bay Area. [5 Amazing Fireball Videos]...read more...

WINTRY CONDITION PERSIST IN PARTS OF EASTERN AND NORTHERN EUROPE

20130323

report by:

rt.com/news/ukraine

APC's deployed on Kiev streets, emergency as record snowfall turns Ukraine into chaos

A state of emergency has been declared in Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on Saturday as the city is paralyzed by heavy snowfall and blizzard totally abnormal for March. "Due to the deterioration of weather conditions [heavy snowfall, blizzards, snow-banks] a state of emergency is declared in the capital," the statement by the Kiev State Administration said. The situation in the city is so dire that Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich has signed a special decree urging all government agencies to provide maximum assistance to victims of the snowstorm. The military is also involved in rescuing the city from its snowbound condition as 550 servicemen are deployed to the capital to aid the community services. Besides 253 snow-cleaning vehicles, 13 armored fighting vehicles are being used to tow stranded cars, with 270 trucks, 540 cars, 83 buses and 15 trolleybuses already removed from snow banks...In just one day Kiev saw over 50 centimeters of snowfall - while the entire monthly norm is 47 centimeters...The weather conditions remain difficult in other parts of Ukraine as well, which led to electricity shortages in almost 400 settlements in the Kiev, Vinnytsia and Poltava Regions. ..The snow front is moving eastward and is expected to hit Moscow on Saturday evening or Sunday, lasting until almost the end of March. A gale warning is announced in Russia's capital and the Moscow Region....read more...

Bangladesh storm kills 20

THE death toll from a tornado that ripped through 20 villages in eastern Bangladesh has climbed to 20 people, with another 200 hurt, a government official says. Initial reports said at least 10 people were killed and a newspaper put the toll for the injured at 500 in the storm that lashed the distant villages in Brahmanbaria district on Friday. On Saturday, local chief government administrator Noor Mohammad Majumder said the death toll had climbed to 20 people died, with another 200 injured in the powerful storm. The local Prothom Alo newspaper reported that the 15-minute storm destroyed many homes and shops, and toppled a large number of trees and electricity poles. Villagers and emergency personnel took the injured to hospitals, the reports said....read more...

STRONG SOLAR CME IMPACTS LIKELY TO CREATE STRONG VOLCANO ACTIVITIES AND LATER EARTHQUAKES UP TO M 8.0

WARNING! MAR 16- 21: As STEREO images show, and as its is typical in association with the last seldom solar quake, that occured on March 15-followed by a 2 day lasting proton storm- a strong increase in eruptive activity followed . MainlyAR 11692 (along with 11695) continued to produce flares and CMEs until it dissapeared behind the Western limbon March 21. The strongest event was a M 1 eruption late on March 21. STEREO and SoHO had transmission problems by the intensive x ray burst thus that latest event cannot by analysed for Earth directed parts before images will resume..All of these CME had at least Earth directed parts in form of intensified solar winds, those had it easy during the proton storm to impact into the temporary positive charged geomagnetic field.
