Today`s RSGA/ USAF - report on solar activity > IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 29/2100Z to 30/2100Z: Solar activity has been at low levels for the past 24 hours. The largest solar event of the period was a C1 event observed at 30/0620Z from Region 2049 (S07E29). There are currently 5 numbered sunspot regions on the disk. IB. Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is likely to be low with a slight chance for an M-class flare on days one, two, and three (01 May, 02 May, 03 May).

complex nested solar region AR 12036 (35- 37 produced and M 7,.8 LDE flare peaking with a CME at 13:19 UTC. The event was associated with a medium strong SEP. First Protons arrived soon after 13 uTC- thus were accelerated near to the speed of light,due to the fact , that the eruption took place near the central solar meridian and the proton speed is highest radially to the eruption center. means, that some proton effects such as hot spot activities will delay resp takle place slowly

Integral proton flux has decreased to normal values after March 07. But the high amount of protons those impacted during this long lasting proton storm ist still effective with heat in the earth body and mantle .Hot spot activities are still present on the Canary islands. The proton influence also still knocks down the integral electron flux to zero and even into negative values. There is a slight recovery of the electron since March 17 . Values will further increase and exceed 100 pfu at any time in about 1 or two weeks ( SEP phase II) , if no new SEP occures.

Solar wind speed, as measured by the ACE spacecraft, reached a peak speed of 330 km/s at 30/2049Z. Total IMF reached 10 nT at 30/1946Z. The maximum southward component of Bz reached -9 nT at 30/1307Z. Electrons greater than 2 MeV at geosynchronous orbit reached a peak level of 263 pfu. IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to active levels on day one (01 May), quiet to unsettled levels on day two (02 May) and quiet levels on day three (03 May).

Integral proton flux has decreased to normal values after March 07. But the high amount of protons those impacted during this long lasting proton storm ist still effective with heat in the earth body and mantle .Hot spot activities are still present on the Canary islands. The proton influence also still knocks down the integral electron flux to zero and even into negative values. There is a slight recovery of the electron since March 17 . Values will further increase and exceed 100 pfu at any time in about 1 or two weeks ( SEP phase II) , if no new SEP occures.

Hydroacoustic sensors on Wake Island suggest that the source of this seismic activity is at or near Ahyi seamount. We cannot locate precisely the source of the activity and it is possible that the vent is one of the other volcanic seamounts in the area. Seismic activity is ongoing at this time. Satellite images show nothing out of the ordinary and we have received no reports of activity at the ocean's surface.

Today`s RSGA/ USAF - report on solar activity > IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 25/2100Z to 26/2100Z: Solar activity has been at low levels for the past 24 hours. The largest solar event of the period was a C2 event observed at 26/1459Z. There are currently 3 numbered sunspot regions on the disk. IB. Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be very low with a chance for a C-class flares and a slight chance for an M-class flare on day one (27 Apr) and expected to be very low with a chance for a C-class flares on days two and three (28 Apr, 29 Apr).

complex nested solar region AR 12036 (35- 37 produced and M 7,.8 LDE flare peaking with a CME at 13:19 UTC. The event was associated with a medium strong SEP. First Protons arrived soon after 13 uTC- thus were accelerated near to the speed of light,due to the fact , that the eruption took place near the central solar meridian and the proton speed is highest radially to the eruption center. means, that some proton effects such as hot spot activities will delay resp takle place slowly

Integral proton flux has decreased to normal values after March 07. But the high amount of protons those impacted during this long lasting proton storm ist still effective with heat in the earth body and mantle .Hot spot activities are still present on the Canary islands. The proton influence also still knocks down the integral electron flux to zero and even into negative values. There is a slight recovery of the electron since March 17 . Values will further increase and exceed 100 pfu at any time in about 1 or two weeks ( SEP phase II) , if no new SEP occures.

Solar wind speed, as measured by the ACE spacecraft, reached a peak speed of 419 km/s at 26/0523Z. Total IMF reached 5 nT at 26/1031Z. The maximum southward component of Bz reached -3 nT at 25/2200Z. Electrons greater than 2 MeV at geosynchronous orbit reached a peak level of 2678 pfu. IIB. Today`s RSGA/ USAF - report on solar activity > IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 24/2100Z to 25/2100Z: Solar activity has been at high levels for the past 24 hours. The largest solar event of the period was a X1 event observed at 25/0027Z from Region 2035, which rotated off of the solar disk on 23 April. There are currently 5 numbered sunspot regions on the disk. IB. Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is likely to be low with a slight chance for an M-class flare on day one (26 Apr) and expected to be very low with a chance for a C-class flares and a slight chance for an M-class flare on day two (27 Apr) and expected to be very low with a chance for a C-class flares on day three (28 Apr).

First Protons arrived soon after 13 uTC- thus were accelerated near to the speed of light,due to the fact , that the eruption took place near the central solar meridian and the proton speed is highest radially to the eruption center. means, that some proton effects such as hot spot activities will delay resp takle place slowly

Integral proton flux has decreased to normal values after March 07. But the high amount of protons those impacted during this long lasting proton storm ist still effective with heat in the earth body and mantle .Hot spot activities are still present on the Canary islands. The proton influence also still knocks down the integral electron flux to zero and even into negative values. There is a slight recovery of the electron since March 17 . Values will further increase and exceed 100 pfu at any time in about 1 or two weeks ( SEP phase II) , if no new SEP occures.

Electrons greater than 2 MeV at geosynchronous orbit reached a peak level of 1075 pfu. IIB. (Euronews/ 201404) Turning smog into diamonds

Imagine a huge electronic vacuum cleaner that would simply suck in smog, cleaning up polluted city air. It’s still a small scale model for now, but Dutch designer Daan Roosegaarde says he has reached an agreement with Beijing’s leaders to test his prototype in a city park next year. The park would have a vacuum tower in the centre, fitted with ionic filters that charge and remove smog particles, blowing fresh air out of the tower’s side vents. Copper coils buried underground would generate an electromagnetic field that attracts the smog particles. “By creating a field of ions, all the particles on the nano scale get positively charged, therefore when the ground is negatively charged, you can drag them to the ground, and purify the air – 75 percent, 80 percent more clean. The great thing about the technology is that is safe. It’s already being used in hospitals and it’s very energy-friendly, so to have 30,000 cubic metres of clean air purified, it only uses like 30 Watts, which is like a light bulb,” says Daan Roosegarde.

But the high amount of protons those impacted during this long lasting proton storm ist still effective with heat in the earth body and mantle .Hot spot activities are still present on the Canary islands. The proton influence also still knocks down the integral electron flux to zero and even into negative values. There is a slight recovery of the electron since March 17 . Values will further increase and exceed 100 pfu at any time in about 1 or two weeks ( SEP phase II) , if no new SEP occures.

IIA. Geophysical Activity Summary 23/2100Z to 24/2100Z: The geomagnetic field has been at quiet to unsettled levels for the past 24 hours. Solar wind speed, as measured by the ACE spacecraft, reached a peak speed of 505 km/s at 24/1954Z. Total IMF reached 6 nT at 24/0222Z. The maximum southward component of Bz reached -6 nT at 23/2222Z. Electrons greater than 2 MeV at geosynchronous orbit reached a peak level of 162 pfu. IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels on day one (25 Apr) and quiet levels on days two and three (26 Apr, 27 Apr).

LAST MAJOR SOLAR EVENT/ EVOLUTION

Sun spot number increased suddenly and within some days to 296 counted spots on April 17, the highest value counted through this entire 11 years cycle max! As typically the high sun spot number is accomponied by almost no CME . On April 18 shortly before 13 UTC,AR 12036 part of the sun spot cluster 12035/36/ 27/ produced a major medium strong SEP near to the central meridian. AR 1203./126/27 is the remnant of an longer PERSISTING OR "NESTLED" sun spot cluster, that had already produced major SEPs during last rotating period * after it it had decayed significantly.The cluster remained with low C level flares active while it rotated over the visibly disc . As already during previous rotation periods, it also envolves still aneiboured regions in an area of at least a fifth of the solar disc in simultanous activities. On April 22, when AR 12035- 37 already is going to rotate out, a new region emerged nearby to AR 12035 and began to produce numerous C flares. On April the region was numbered as AR 12046 and produced an X 1 LED flare with a CME at 00: 27 UTC,. There was a slight rise in proton flux- ad indicator that the flare was asscociated to an SEP.Neithzer the CME nor the SEP will become geoeffective . I will closely observe this region when it rotates in again on May 07.

Ubinas volcano continues to erupt – ash has now traveled as far as the peripheries of Arequipa and Puno. After another eruption on Saturday morning, a five thousand meter high plume of ash was blown across the Ubinas valley and got as far as the districts of Ash from Ubinas volcano caused conjunctivitis in residents of Arequipa region in Moquegua and San Juan de Tarucani in Arequipa, as well as in the city of Omate, 37 km from the volcano. The eruption could be seen as far away as in the city of Arequipa, 70 km from the volcano, according to a Sunday report from El Comercio....read more..

Reventador (Ecuador): A new phase of intense activity with possible lava fountains and new lava flows began at the volcano yesterday. 
Over the past weeks, the volcano had been in a state of mild intermittent strombolian explosions, but experienced a rapid increase in activity yesterday after around 15:00 local time. Infrared webcam images (collected by Culture Volcan) suggest that a phase of lava fountaining or much stronger strombolian explosions took place

Today`s RSGA/ USAF - report on solar activity > IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 22/2100Z to 23/2100Z: Solar activity has been at low levels for the past 24 hours. The largest solar event of the period was a C5 event observed at 23/1306Z from Region 2035 (S13W85). There are currently 5 numbered sunspot regions on the disk. IB. Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be low with a chance for M-class flares on days one and two (24 Apr, 25 Apr) and likely to be low with a chance for M-class flares on day three (26 Apr).

First Protons arrived soon after 13 uTC- thus were accelerated near to the speed of light,due to the fact , that the eruption took place near the central solar meridian and the proton speed is highest radially to the eruption center. means, that some proton effects such as hot spot activities will delay resp takle place slowly

Integral proton flux has decreased to normal values after March 07. But the high amount of protons those impacted during this long lasting proton storm ist still effective with heat in the earth body and mantle .Hot spot activities are still present on the Canary islands. The proton influence also still knocks down the integral electron flux to zero and even into negative values. There is a slight recovery of the electron since March 17 . Values will further increase and exceed 100 pfu at any time in about 1 or two weeks ( SEP phase II) , if no new SEP occures.

(NBC/Science) Spike in Earthquakes? An 'Illusion' Raises New Questions

Does it seem as if there have been more earthquakes in recent weeks? Some scientists thought so. Some of the best minds in earthquake science have been counting quakes and analyzing seismic waves to see if the largest in a string of recent quakes — the magnitude-8.2 tremor in Chile on April 1 — might have triggered others far, far away. Ross Stein, a senior U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist who studies how quakes interact, got so excited that on April 12 he fired off an email to colleagues that started with this: "Guys, seems like a lot of big quakes have been popping off around the globe over the past week." Experts for years have known that the seismic waves from one quake can trigger a quake somewhere else — a process known as "dynamic triggering." Stein himself co-authored a study tying a magnitude-8.7 Indian Ocean quake in 2012 to a spike in quakes globally in the days after. That increase lasted about a week, and a few days after the spike, the rate for larger quakes fell to below average. "It's as if the Indian Ocean quake had shaken the tree, causing the apples ready to fall out to do so," said Thorne Lay, a seismology professor at the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Lay's own research has found that over the last decade the number of major quakes, those measuring 8.0 or bigger, is nearly triple the rate for the 1900s, but whether that's just a random cluster or a sign of dynamic triggering is unclear.

Here on Kilauea over the past week we have seen the lava lake at the summit rise and drop several times! This is due to the several DI tilt events that have occured. Gas emissions continued to be elevated at the summit as well.

VAAC Darwin reported an ash plume rising to approx. 30-35,000 ft (9-11 km) altitude and drifting NWN, and raised the aviation alert level to red.

Dukono (Halmahera): (21 Apr) Explosions that are strong enough to leave ash plumes visible on satellite data continue to occur almost every day. This morning, VAAC Darwin reported an ash plume at 8,000 ft (2.4 km) altitude.

Fuego (Guatemala): (21 Apr) Activity at the volcano continues to be elevated and increased yesterday, prompting INSIVUMEH to issue a special bulletin yesterday, in which the agency warns that a possible new paroxysm could occur in the near future.

Nishino-shima (Volcano Islands): A possible explosive eruption occurred this morning; VAAC detected an ash plume at estimated 7,000 ft (2.1 km) altitude drifting east from the volcano. complex nested solar region AR 12036 (35- 37 produced and M 7,.8 LDE flare peaking with a CME at 13:19 UTC. The event was associated with a medium strong SEP. First Protons arrived soon after 13 uTC- thus were accelerated near to the speed of light,due to the fact , that the eruption took place near the central solar meridian and the proton speed is highest radially to the eruption center. means, that some proton effects such as hot spot activities will delay resp takle place slowly

Integral proton flux has decreased to normal values after March 07. But the high amount of protons those impacted during this long lasting proton storm ist still effective with heat in the earth body and mantle .Hot spot activities are still present on the Canary islands. The proton influence also still knocks down the integral electron flux to zero and even into negative values. There is a slight recovery of the electron since March 17 . Values will further increase and exceed 100 pfu at any time in about 1 or two weeks ( SEP phase II) , if no new SEP occures.

IIA. Geophysical Activity Summary 20/2100Z to 21/2100Z: The geomagnetic field has been at quiet to active levels for the past 24 hours. Solar wind speed, as measured by the ACE spacecraft, reached a peak speed of 711 km/s at 20/2206Z. Total IMF reached 12 nT at 20/2126Z. The maximum southward component of Bz reached -7 nT at 21/0030Z. IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to active levels on day one (22 Apr) and quiet to unsettled levels on days two and three (23 Apr, 24 Apr). Protons greater than 10 Mev have a slight chance of crossing threshold on day one (22 Apr).

The Lyrids meteor shower are usually active between April 16 and April 25 every year. It tends to peak around April 22 or April 23. Considered to be the oldest known meteor shower, the Lyrids are named after constellation Lyra. The radiant point of the shower - the point in the sky where the meteors seem to emerge from - lies near the star Vega, one of the brightest stars in the sky during this time of the year. At least 12 people, believed to be local Nepalese Sherpa guides, have been killed by an avalanche on Mount Everest. The accident is believed to be the single biggest loss of life on the slopes of the world's highest mountain. British mountaineer Alan Hinkes said the area the avalanche hit, the Khumbu Ice Fall, was "a dangerous spot" which should never be "underestimated." He told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "You've got to go through this chaotic jumble of huge blocks of ice.... all the icefall itself can collapse and avalanche around you. ...listen to BBC radiointerview

INETER reported that the shore of Lake Managua retreated in some areas close to the epicenters of the recent earthquakes. Residents from the area Xiloá-Apoyeque, located about 2 km east of Comarca el Marañonal (at km 17 on the Xiloá highway) observed that the beach retreated for 16 meters on a strech of 500 m length. This regression corresponds to a drop in lake level by 40 cm, but could also be a result of uplift of this area by the same amount. The latter seems a more plausible explanation, given that it appears that the lake shore only regressed in this area. Changes in air and water temperature were also reported felt by residents, INETER wrote.

(Jakartapost/ 20140420) Mt.Merapi spews smoke

Mount Merapi on the border of Central Java and Yogyakarta spewed smoke, causing light ash showers in a number of areas located within a 15-kilometer radius on the southeast, south, and southwest side of the volcano, on Sunday. “Tremors were recorded for around 20 minutes at 4:21 a.m. local time on Sunday, and our observers began to hear thunder at 4:26 a.m.,” said Sri Sumarti, head of the Mt.Merapi division at the Center for Research and Technology Development of Geologic Disaster (BPPTKG) in Yogyakarta on Sunday, as quoted by Antara news agency. It was reported that ember was also seen at the top of the volcano. Sri asserted that, however, there was no lava flow during the volcanic activity. “The same thing happened after Mt.Merapi erupted in 2010. The smoke blowing this morning was also a single occurrence and was not followed by other seismic activities,” she said.
