1. what is a" time zone"?
A TIME ZONE is a region of the earth that has uniform standard time, usually referred to as the local time. By convention, time zones compute their local time as an offset from UTC (see also Greenwich Mean Time). Local time is UTC plus the current time zone offset for the considered location.
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is a time standard based on International Atomic Time (TAI) with leap seconds added at irregular intervals to compensate for the Earth's slowing rotation.

The Earth rotates- seen from its surface- into the Eastern direction.. Such a rotation period is called " day" and divided into 24 hours.. Following these meridians, the sun rises on different times. Clocks and calendars were since ancient times directly associated to the local sun rises and the sun years.. Why are there different times of the sun rises in diffferent regions of the earth?

read more in the text box:

due to different sun rises, and with continuing " internationalisation", people travel, trade an communicate between these different local times zones.

Instead of simply adjusting all the clocks on the earth to one universal time ( so mid-day would be in Greenwhich at 12PM but in the next times zone at 1 PM, and we would have not to calculate . But: Every country still insists touse watches with the "12" on the top what means "Midday" resp "Midnight"- due to local sunrises. What would be the problem, if watches in Germany have either a " 1 on to ( while the watch hand still show in vertical direction at midnight ... or opposite?

This is however the reason, why we still have to calculate the time difference from our local time to that local time zone, where we (for example)want to travel to. Many use so called calculators in which it always needs to insert number for each single calculation. Therefore I have made that time table, particularly out of easy recognizable colors ( night is dark day is brighter), where all local times can be found very easy ( as I hope)

Originally the time calculator was designed expecially for my international weather forecast site,. But what was meant to be a small project , took me much time and I had to collect and learn about lots of datas , which I now decided to use for an extended version I call " world time zone " sites.

You find a quick step using advice for my universal "world time zones converting table "above the table- a more detailed one - how to use it" etc on this- below the table>>

About the functions / technical aspects of the time table:

However, though the time converting table is already at functio., I am working on , to improve it and to make it easy to work with. What I experienced was, that the many numbers can easily confuse:

To make the orientation easier, I have now inserted columns between with the numbers "-11 until + 12 . So- you can always see the time zones you are looking for beside each "conversion column! in horizontal direction ( rows) you have the 24 day time, in vertical direction ( columns) the 24 time zones

4 easy steps to use the time zone converting table:
1. search for your specific time zone you are in or from where you want to convert any time to another time zone - you can use the overview map above or go to the specific site as listed in the menu ( UTC+11 to UTC+12), where you will find all inforrmations like maps about this specific time zone
2. search the very LEFT COLUMN in the universal world time converter table below for your specific time zone ( for example: UTC+ 5)
3 choose in the HORIZONTAL ROW beside this time zone symbol the day hour valid for your time zone , you want to convert to another time zone
4. now move IN THE SAME COLUMN in which you have found the day hour you want to convert up resp down to that time zone you want to convert your time to and find the result. For easier orientation in the large tabale just use the symbol columns UTC+11 to UTC+12 beside each column to find the dedicated time zones

day shifts:

if your result field has another background color than the input field has, than your result must be corrected to the previous or following day. However In most cases the date will remain the same.

green background = previous day

blue background = present day

red background= following day

The date difference would be 1 day plus from green to blue and also one day plus from blue to red ( 2 days from green to red) and opposite . Though minutes always remain the same, there are a few specific time zones, which are divided into semi semi or quarter hours :

you can find all informations about on the specific page of this time zone by clicking on the symbol in the related site menu

WELL UNDERSTOOD ! Now you have the accurate result. By the color of the letters you can also see whether its night or day there, though this already is defined by PM or AM time shortcuts

WORLD TIME ZONES

time zone calculation table

1-what is a" time zone"?

This is however the reason, why we still have to calculate , the time difference is from ourt local time to the local time is that earth region, where we (for example)want to travel to. Many use so called calculators but it always needs to insert number for each calculation Therefore I have made that time table, particularly out of easy recognizable colors ( night is dark day is brighter), where all local times can be found very easy ( as I hope)

2- how to use the converting table below:it:

step 1: Choose your time zone out of the menu in the upper row to get to the page for your specific time zone
step 2 : you will find all necessary information about your time zone: maps, local names, cities and countries and also the specific table for your time zone
step 3: search your default time zone UTC +/- X in the left column ( UTC12- UTC + 11)

look in the most right column the row with time zone (UTC+ 11 - UTC 12) , you want to calculate your time to .

-note: You find the accurate results straight up or down in the same COLUMN of your input time , but in the same ROW of the time zone you want to convert it to:

One example: time zone: UTC + 1/ hour 6 AM= to time zone UTC- 5 is just 5 rows up and results as 01AM )

3. DEFAULT TIME for table is: Greenwich Mean Time -UTC or GMT-what does it mean?

means: this time table is designed exspecially for the GMT time zone and starts in the middle row (named: UTC)with midnight in Greenwich time ( 00AM)It can be used as default for each other time zone as well: with the difference, that you must take your input hour out of the row of your specific time zone. If you do not, just the night and day difference and the day shift will not be displayed correctly!

example: you live in time zone UTC+ 2 ( Moscow) : If you want to know what time is in time zone UTC-5, while it is AUG- 20- 04AM in Moscow, you have to start in the row for your time zone ( UTC+ 2). Now you easily can go in that ( hour) COLUMN (!!) up untilthe row for: tz - 5 where you find the correct result ( o9PM in UTC-5)

as you can , also see,: the input field is a blue field with white letters what means: Its night time and present ( default) day

The result however is in a green field with white letters what means: the time in the searched zone one day previously and: its night time there!. So the correct result is: AUG- 19-09PM ( means: if it is in UTC+2- Moscow AUG-20-04AM, the same time it is in time zone UTC-5 still: AUG-19-5PM

4. input time - results- do dates and minutes in the results remain the same?

Minutes remain the same as in your default time zone!. For example: 3.45 local time results as x( hours) 45 in each time zone, except the few, which are divided into semi hours. Whether your searched time zone is divided, you can find out by clicking on the menu point ( f. example "- 5)of that time zone On this related page you will find all necessary informations

some calculations will result in other time zones not as present, but as the previous or the following day/ date. This is simply said- just normal as neither the sun doesn`t have a watch nor the earth . The earth just "spins" in a certain time period The meantime is the present day .

5. DAY SHIFTS

How to find out day shifts: no problem!

Most of all calculation will result in the same date- rather only a few- not. if the result you find is not in a red or green field, its the same day / date

present day ( in the most time zones) are written in black letters ( black letters = day time)

resp. white letters ( white = night time) on blue background for "present day"

Therefore- previous days results are written aswhite letters ( white= night time) or black (black= day time) on green background ( previous day)

following day result are written in white letters ( white = night time) resp. black letter ( black = day time) on red background for "following day" .

However: if you live in such an outer time zone, ( lets say: UTC-11) and you want your local time " Aug- 20- 3 PM" converted in time zone UTC + 3 ( results as " 5 AM") you would find your input time in a green field but in the result in a blue field : That however means you have to add 1 day. The correct result is therefore. Aug- 21- 5 AM

opposite : Aug- 20- 01AM in time zone UTC +11 ( white letters on red ground is " nighttime the following day/date)results in time zone UTC -5 as "09AM" ( written in black letters on blue ground!) what indicates one day difference as well. But - in that case- your resulting time is on the previous day to your input date . The correct result is therefore: Aug- 19- 8AM

If your chosen time results on the searched time zone as the previous or following day you will find those fields background colored in green ( pervious day) or in red (following day) .
